Take Back Your Time—Holiday Weekends

About time, YOUR time, and the revolution of taking it back.

Happy Labor Day weekend! I’m enjoying what feels like late-summer-algorithms—like there’s a shared effort to cling to and draw out the summer. Every August my New England town gets quiet, sleepy even. I have time to contemplate time and I love it!

While many Bostonians travel south to the Cape, north to northern states, or west to the Berkshires, we intentionally stay home to enjoy beers on the patio. Today I have agency over my time—I can choose to not waste time in traffic, or for the selfish hidden agenda of the nefarious cult leader. There’s no longer a coercive influence hoisting a selfish agenda, lingering in the background, infiltrating my time and space.

Cults always hijack and leverage YOUR time. All cults hijack your time. The longer your tenure, the higher the hidden interest—you would never sign up willingly for this trade off—your life for their crap.

For the last 13 years, from leaving the cult until now, my gratitude for MY time, after giving 5 years away to grifters, keeps growing. Thanks to “school” I have learned to guard it fiercely. The truth is with every passing day, we all have less time. Life is short, so claiming and guarding your time is integral to your recovery.

Often for the Gentle Soul this simple act of free will feels revolutionary, especially after a culty misadventure. I've heard that the best revenge is a well-lived life. So, I hope that you embrace this long weekend and fill it with whatever brings you joy, or rest, or relaxation, or fun, or connection, or solitude—whatever it is that you need to recharge for the fall. Comment below about what you are doing to take back your time this holiday weekend. Cheers!
