Therapy

Gentle Souls, you may be wondering how to reclaim, or claim, authentic self
for the first time. I offer a template that begins with caring for yourself first:
honoring yourself as you are; valuing, therefore protecting, your gifts fiercely;
safeguarding your time, energy, and focus.

After my cult misadventure, I realized that if I didn’t protect myself, no one else would. So, I started saying no and setting boundaries. A funny thing happened: I discovered that what is good for me is good for the people that I love.

You, Gentle Soul, have your version of personal reclamation. It begins with
establishing what is good for you. Start steering toward the things that bring
you calm and clarity, then see how what benefits you also benefits the people that you love. I would be honored to facilitate you in your self-empowerment.

Psychoeducation Consultations: Coercive Control Dynamics

Fishbowl analogy — If I could tell a goldfish, “Jump out of your bowl, swim 500 feet, and turn around to tell me what you see,” the goldfish would look blankly and respond, “What bowl?” When we swim around in a particular environment long enough, it becomes “normal” — even (or maybe especially) when it shouldn’t. It’s a survival mechanism.

Societies are just starting to understand the destructive effects of narcissistic abuse, coercive control, and cults. It rips through, damaging hearts, minds, lives, and relationships. Unfortunately, victim-blame still silences and furthers the damage of those already suffering in a confusing swirl of questions and feelings like, “How did I let this happen?” “Why didn’t I see [FILL BLANK]?” “Why didn’t I listen to my doubts?”

Neuroscience, psychology, and sociology provide answers, taking the judgment out and addressing those painful questions. Healthy attachment and human connection are critical to individual and societal well-being. We survive in groups; we need both to belong and to be affirmed as individuals.

Growing up, we don’t learn how to spot con artists. No one tells us that our social needs are metabolic — our emotional connections and friendships are critical. No one says that lack of confidence, isolation, alienation, and loneliness leave us vulnerable to pathologically selfish people who take advantage of our social and emotional wiring.

Understanding human nature and brain development is essential to recovery from relational trauma.

Rate: $140.00/hour-long session.
