Bye, Bye, Facebook – the Early Exit

Podcast hosts, Nippy Ames and Sara Edmondson of A Little Bit Culty ask their guests, “What sticks in your craw?” My answer was, and still is, victim blame.
So, when I saw a Facebook victim-blamer comment that Virginia Giuffre, Epstein/Maxwell sex trafficking victim, and whistle blower, “…was 17, hardly a child” and “You have to wonder why her parents let her go to that island…” I took the bait and replied, “Wow. You’re not embarrassed to post that comment. Doesn’t bode well for your character.”
I was polite. But, even so, that victim-blame was, most likely, hate bait. I know that I wasted of my time, energy and focus. It felt good to strike back. But it means nothing, ultimately. Ignoramuses are stoking the rage match, intentionally. They are cruel people who don’t care about other people.
So, I pulled the plug early. I deleted my personal Facebook account before my self-imposed September 30th deadline. While I still feel the pull to check Facebook every time I open a browser (which is an interesting study in how addictive these sites are) I don’t miss it. I am calmer. My mind is clearer.
Calmer, clearer. Gentle Souls, that’s the goal.
